I still remem­ber pho­tograph­ing Chris Francis’s incred­i­ble goal against Seat­tle Thun­der­birds.  Port­land Win­ter­hawks was down 3–2, less than 3 sec­onds to go (2.9 sec­onds to be exact) and Chris pulled off incred­i­ble game tying & win­ning goal.  He’s now with Amer­i­can Hockey League Fal­cons.  Wish the best Chris.

For pho­tog­ra­phers, image was taken with canon 300 2.8 lens.  It is one of the best lens for indoor sports like hockey and back­et­ball.  Some­times it’s dif­fi­cult to pho­to­graph the player, goalie, and the puck all at the same time but know­ing where all that hap­pen helps a ton.  I was shoo­ing at the 200 level and got lucky there.

 

Today, I pho­tographed Port­land Win­ter­hawks play­ers  vis­it­ing hos­pi­tals to deliver toys and teddy bears to local hos­pi­tals.  Quick pho­to­graph at the Shriners children’s hospital.

Next stop, VA Hos­pi­tal, Ty Rat­tie is deliv­er­ing teddy bears.

Once in a while, I get into a sit­u­a­tion where I can’t find any thing to bounce my flash off.  Today was the day.  It was super high ceil­ing and if I crank up the power of the flash, I might be able to light the group but it would be pretty much con­cen­trated on their head.  That won’t be pretty.  I end up bounce the flash straight up and gobo’d the flash so that their face is not lit directly  by flash.  Then I post processed the image in photoshop.

It’s the biggest hockey game in Port­land.  Fans all excited and 16,321 teddy bears were thrown on the ice at the Rose Gar­den Sat­ur­day night.
