I still remember photographing Chris Francis’s incredible goals against Seattle. Portland Winterhawks was down 3–2, less than 3 seconds to go (2.9 seconds to be exact) and Chris pulled off incredible game tying & winning goal. He’s now with American Hockey League Falcons. Wish the best Chris.
Portland Winterhawks beat Seattle Thunderbirds 6–3 and that’s 9–0 this season. Last year, we were one of the worst team throughout the league but man, this year we are totally different team now. I see a lot more fans this year and Seattle game has been always my favorite game. Here’s some of the game photo. I didn’t bring long glasses tonight all of them shot with 1d Mark III + 70–200 2.8 is.
Annual airplane toss night and Curtis’ new custom made helmet arrived today. I get to photograph his helmet way before the game starts. Curtis didn’t get to play tonight. Mac Carruth (#31) was our goaltender and it was tough night for him.

I usually shot hockey at 200 level since I don’t have to shoot through glass. But today, I was mostly in 100 level (ice level) and shot very close to glass.
Notice Swift Current Broncos Travis Bobbee (#4) used to play for Winterhawks. Good to see him back.
Here’s some of tonight’s photo. Silvertips Goalie Thomas Heemskerk (#30) makes a stop during the Portland Winterhawks game versus the Everett Silvertips against Portland Winterhawks at Rose Garden. The Winterhawks went on to win 2–0

Everett Silvertips Byron Froese is tripped by Portland Winterhawks defenseman Ponich, Brett (#6) during 3rd period at Rose Garden.
Winterhawks Niederreiter, Nino (#22) checks Everett Silvertips Ryan Murray during 3rd period at Rose Garden. Nino scored the first goal as well.
Winterhawks Francis, Chris (#12) during 3rd period against the Everett Silvertips at Rose Garden.
Winterhawks Goalie Curtis, Ian (#34) made 24 saves tonight. That’s his second career shutout.

Plenty of goals including Chris Francis’s hat trick. That’s his second hat trick of the season. Third period alone, each team scored three goals forcing it to penalty shootout. First image, I used 5D Mark II + 70–200 2.8 is and shot remotely using pocket wizard. Main reason shooting this way? I don’t want fans blocking my view. Fans tend to stand up at the most important moment.
Portland Winterhawks C Chris Francis (#12) scores his first goal during 2nd period against the at the Rose Garden.
Spokanse Chief Goaltender James Reid (#35) makes a stop on Portland Winterhawks Defense Taylor Aronson (#37) during 3rd period.

I barely made to the Rose garden after shooting OSAA football Semis tonight. Here’s couple of tonight’s photo. Obviously all from the 3rd period. Did you know that in hockey, there’s only 3 period.
