Photographed the wedding of Marlena & Kris this past weekend at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Antonio.

I like to use longer lens to capture moments like this. Shot with canon 85 1.2 in available light. Continue reading “Wedding Photography San Antonio | Marlena & Kris” »

Photographed Marlena’s bridal session in early April. Now that Kris and Marlena are married, I can show her image here. It was beautiful day to shoot and bride to be Marlena looked absolutely gorgeous.

Available light wasn’t too good. I ended up using one 580 EX II as a kicker light to shape her body and also light up her face just a little. Shot with Canon 85 1.2 for shallow depth of field. There’s a lot of nice places to photograph bride and groom’s portrait here in San Antonio and Landa Park is one of my favorite place to shoot.

Darie & Yvonne had a fantastic wedding at the one of the very famous wedding venue in San Antonio Texas — the Marriage island. Couple got ready at the Contessa Hotel by the riverwalk. This place is such a great place for the wedding photographer since getting ready, ceremony, reception, and bride and groom portraits all can be done at the same place.

I photographed Royce & Anita’s engagement session last month and I was so thankful for them to contact me to capture their special day. Royce & Anita’s family knew my name when I showed up (my name is kind of hard to pronounce correctly). I felt very comfortable from the beginning to the end of their wedding.

I’ve never met the Princella & Robert until the wedding day. Everything was done over the phone and email. To be honest, I was little nervous meeting them. Thankfully, I saw wedding planner, Condii when I showed up and everything went pretty well. Condii and I had photo check list as well as group shot list so all I had to do was to figure out place for the bride & groom portrait, the formals. The venue I photographed was called Granberry Hills and it’s one of the most well known place for wedding here in San Antonio. Image by San Antonio Wedding Photographer Soobum Im.

310 1 I love the weather here in Texas. This is THE best time for the weddings. No photoshop needed here. Shot with just one speedlite on camera left and pull this image in less than 5 min. Just before the bride and groom off the reception.

2 I wanted to create some dramatic yet traditional image. I placed the light behind the couple (left) and left (right). I didn’t have to use light since it was cloudy but I like to use speedlite because I can control the quality and direction of the light.

1 For getting ready shots, I prefer not to use flash. I saw beautiful light coming off the window illuminates the edges of the bride. Shot with fast lens — canon 85 1.2 shot wide open.

When I arrived at the Grace Lutheran church downtown San Antonio, I was told that AC wan’t working (it was 97 degree outside). It was certainly not used to my second shooter, David who just flew from Portland the other day. Church was beautiful but also really dark. We had to use two off camera flash (Nikon SB-26s) on 1/2 power which game us 1/30 sec, 2.8 @ ISO 1600. Thought about going to 3200 iso but we under exposed a bit (now 1/60 sec @1600) which gives us much clean image and image won’t be blur (David was shooting from balcony with tele photo lens). First image was shot with 5D Mark II + 85 1.2 and 35 1.4 L lens.

Second image was shot from balcony with 1D Mark III + 70–200 2.8 is. My brother in law, David did good job capturing moment in very low light condition.

Shot quick Bridal portrait outside the church. Thankfully, there was a shade area with clean background (a suv about to park but we asked to move). Shot with 5D Mark II + 85 1.2 L. I prefer 1D Mark III + 85 1.2 since it focuses better (my opinion) but I happened to have 5D + 85 1.2 on my hand. No off camera lighting here. Just shot with an available light and later post processed using Nik software plug-in: Darken-Lighten, Dynamic Skin Softener filters.

I’ve never shot this many group pictures in one day. We were supposed to do Bride and Groom portrait right after the group shot but had to postponed since we didn’t want 100+ people waiting for us. It’s not photographer’s day. It’s for Megan & Jason and their family. B&G portrait was shot at 9 PM. I saw the clear summer sky and remembered photographer Joe McNally said about blue against orange. Human eyes tends to immediately look at worm tone. I gelled our strobes, Elinchrom Ranger Quadra on 1/2 CTO with an umbrella. LED modeling light is an great option in this kind of situations since I can not focus in this dark environment.

Maybe too much AC on a wedding day. I got a cold after Lee & Cha’s wedding in San Antonio Texas. Went through some of the wedding pictures I took last weekend and thought I’d post some of my picks. They wanted to formal portraits with Korean traditional dress before the wedding at the Japanese tea garden. This picture was taken at 2 PM and high sync flash triggered by pocket wizard made these photo quick n easy.

After the ceremony, I wanted to do bride & groom portrait. With severe hot weather here in san antonio, I didn’t want to bring B&G to shoot in another location. We decided to do quick portrait at the parking lot. I knew I only had less than 10 min to do this and had to work fast. I used Elinchrom Ranger Quadra do pull this off. It was in full power w/o any light modifier. If you look at closely, I cheated the sync speed. The bottom part didn’t get any light at all. I like the edge darkening effect anyways.

There wasn’t any wind blowing. Instead, I asked groom to hold the veil and gently drop.
